Learning About the Parts of a Book

Dear Parents,

In class this week, we learned about the parts of a book.  You can help your child remember the parts of a book by looking at books together and talking about the various parts that you see.  Here are the parts we talked about in class.
  1. Title
  2. Author
  3. Illustrator
  4. Publisher
  5. Cover
  6. Call Number
  7. Spine
  8. Title Page
  9. Copyright Page
  10. Table of Contents
  11. Glossary
  12. Index
Here are some online learning games that will help your child identify and remember the parts of a book.

Animal Factory Parts of a Book
At the Animal Factory Parts of a Book site, you will find a list of the parts of a book on the left pane.  You will find a picture of a book on the left pane.  When you click on the book part on the left, it will be displayed on the right.  This is a  great way to review all the parts of a book!

Parts of a Book
At the Parts of a Book site, you will find a game where your child clicks and drags the definition of each part into its proper place.  Click and dragging is fun and easy!

Parts of a Book Concentration Game
Wow!  This game is fun.  Match the parts of a book terms to win.

Parts of a Book Matching Game
In this matching game, you match the parts of a book term with its definition.  You will really know all the book parts after playing this game!

Parts of a Book Word Search
I love doing word searches.  Don't you?  In this word search game, all the words you will find are terms related to parts of a book.

I hope you enjoyed playing these games!  Let me know which one is your favorite.  Okay?

Ms. Ray
